What’s the Best Target for the EK Archery REVO 7?

The EK Archery REVO 7 is a fantastic crossbow, but there’s one important thing that new owners should consider before they start shooting: choosing the right target.

Unlike many conventional crossbows, the REVO 7 fires relatively slim, lightweight bolts. While these are well suited to the crossbow’s rapid-fire design, they present a particular challenge when it comes to targets.

Use the wrong target and you could find your bolts penetrating too deeply, or even passing straight through it!

Fortunately, EK Archery has developed a specialist target designed to tackle this problem.

Why Does the REVO 7 Need a Different Target?

The REVO 7 uses slimmer bolts than many traditional crossbows.

Because these bolts have a smaller diameter, they can penetrate some conventional foam targets more deeply than you might expect.

This can cause several problems:

  • Excessive penetration: Bolts can travel so far into the target that the flights (also called vanes) become embedded in the foam.
  • Damaged flights: When the flights enter the target, they can become bent, torn or detached, particularly when removing the bolt.
  • Pass-throughs: If the target doesn’t provide sufficient stopping resistance, a bolt could pass straight through it.
  • Difficult bolt removal: Deeply embedded bolts can be awkward to extract, increasing the risk of damage.

The problem isn’t necessarily that the target is poor quality. It might work perfectly well with conventional crossbow bolts, but simply isn’t suitable for the REVO 7’s slimmer bolts.

The solution is to use a target with sufficient stopping resistance to bring the bolt to a halt before the flights enter the foam.

Introducing the EK Archery Foam Target Bag Kit

EK Archery has developed a purpose-designed target for its shorter crossbow bolts, including those used by the REVO 7.

The EK Archery Foam Target Bag Kit (B10018E4-S) uses high-density, layered foam engineered to absorb the impact of crossbow bolts and reduce the risk of excessive penetration.

Rather than relying on a conventional foam block, the target uses two different foam layers to provide effective stopping resistance.

This makes it particularly suitable for the REVO 7 and other compatible EK Archery crossbows.

What’s Included?

The kit includes:

  • High-density layered foam target
  • Protective carrying bag
  • Canvas target faces
  • Four target pins

The carrying bag measures approximately 40 × 42.5 × 9 cm, making it relatively compact and convenient to transport or store.

Replaceable Components – A Big Advantage

One particularly useful feature of this target is that the individual components can be replaced.

All archery targets eventually wear out. Repeatedly shooting into the same area gradually reduces the material’s ability to stop bolts effectively.

With this EK Archery target, the front and rear foam sections, carrying bag and target faces are available separately.

That means you don’t necessarily have to purchase an entirely new target when one component becomes worn.

For anyone regularly practising with their REVO 7, that’s a useful long-term benefit.

Is It Only Suitable for the REVO 7?

No. Although it’s particularly useful for the REVO 7, EK Archery also lists the target as compatible with several other crossbows, including:

  • EK Archery REVO 7
  • EK Archery Cobra R9
  • EK Archery Cobra RX
  • EK Archery Cobra RX Adder
  • EK Archery Vlad

This makes it a versatile option for anyone who owns more than one compatible EK Archery crossbow.

A Few Important Tips When Using Your Target

Even with a purpose-designed target, there are a few things worth remembering.

1. Make sure the foam is the correct way around.

EK Archery specifies that the white foam layer must face the shooter, with the black foam layer behind it. The target is designed to be shot from the front only.

2. Inspect your target regularly.

No target lasts forever. If bolts begin penetrating more deeply than usual, the foam may be wearing out and require replacement.

3. Check your bolts after shooting.

Inspect the shafts and flights for damage before reusing them. Damaged bolts should not be fired.

4. Always use a suitable backstop.

Even a specialist target cannot guarantee that every bolt will be stopped. Always shoot in a safe, controlled environment with an appropriate backstop behind your target.

So, What’s the Best Target for the REVO 7?

Our recommendation is the EK Archery Foam Target Bag Kit (B10018E4-S).

It’s specifically designed for short crossbow bolts, uses high-density layered foam to improve stopping performance and has the added advantage of replaceable components.

If you’ve invested in a REVO 7, it makes sense to use a target designed for its ammunition rather than risk damaging your bolts with an unsuitable alternative.
